Hi! I'm Yen, the baker behind RealBakes.
Together with the Chang family — a bunch of passionate foodies — we've teamed up to create a bakery with one goal in mind: to make natural baked goods using only real, minimally processed ingredients. That means no artificial colorings — just honest, wholesome bakes.
Our menu changes every three months, giving us space to play with fresh, exciting flavors and seasonal inspiration.
A Bit About Me:
I completed my university degree but I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted to do next. A corporate internship during university made one thing certain: the corporate path wasn’t for me. I discovered that I loved working with my hands and baking in particular brought me a deep sense of joy and purpose.
That realization led me to enroll in pastry school at At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy in Singapore. There, I learned the fundamentals of kitchen life and took my first steps into the F&B industry. Over the next few years, I explored different roles in both pastry and bread-making, gaining valuable experience along the way.
Still, a part of me wondered: was there more I could do? What would it feel like to live independently, away from home, while pursuing something I truly loved? I decided to take a leap of faith and enrolled in the Diplôme de Boulangerie program at Le Cordon Bleu in Malaysia. I spent all my savings on the course and relocated to Kuala Lumpur for nine months. It was tough being away from home but i am thankful to my family for encouraging me every step of the way.
While in Malaysia, I had the opportunity to intern with the amazing pastry and bakery team at One&Only Desaru Coast. I lived there for three months, with the resort providing staff lodging and meals. That year away from home was transformative — it pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow both personally and professionally.
One of the proudest moments of my journey came during graduation, when I was named the Sunway Le Cordon Bleu Rising Star — an award given to one student per batch who demonstrates passion and promise in the kitchen. The moment was made even sweeter when my family flew in to surprise me and celebrate together.
Now that I’m back, the Changs and I are excited to begin a new chapter. With Real Bakes, I hope to hone the skills I have gained from my experiences while bringing joy through natural, delicious bakes for your celebrations, gatherings, and every sweet moment in between.
