Beautiful garnet colour with glints of deep purple. The nose is initially quite discreet, offering fresh almonds and hint of smoke, it then develops aromas of blackberries and star anise with aeration. Rounded, delicate palate with silky tannins on the finish.

Domaines Schlumberger Pinot Gris Les Princes Abbés 2017 - France, Alsace

The robe is light yellow with green reflections of medium intensity. The disk is bright, limpid and transparent. The wine shows youth. The nose is marked, pleasant, a bit short. We perceive a complex dominant of fruity scents, apple, honey and lovage. The airing enhances these scents and reveals quince, hop, button mushrooms and a slight smokiness. A bit retained, the nose shows sophistication. It needs time to express itself. Patience… The onset in the mouth is moderately ample, round and heady.

The Billaud-Simon Chablis is source from throughout the Chablis appellation’s finest communes. Grapes are pneumatically pressed at the domaine and macerated at cool temperatures for a period of 5 to 7 days. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations, and ageing all occur in stainless steel vat. The wine is aged for 9 months prior to bottling.

This young wine has a fairly expressive nose with plenty of fruit aromas, accompanied by the typical aromas for the varietal. Made from equal proportions of grapes from the Château’s three plots, the blend is dominated by Grenache (2/3) and Syrah (1/4). Reserve de la Comtesse 2014 - France, Bordeaux

The 2014 Reserve de Comtesse de Lalande has a very fresh and vibrant bouquet with lovely cedar-infused black fruit that sings of Pauillac-ness (apologies for the made-up word!). The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp and elegant with a keen line of acidity. This feels quite linear at the moment and perhaps the finish could have dealt more complexity commensurate with the aromatics. Yet there is bundles of freshness infused into this Deuxième Vin and there is a palpable salinity on the aftertaste.
