CAN I PERFORM QURBAN FOR A LOVED ONE WHO HAS PASSED ON?
Firstly, Qurban is sunnah Muaqqadah, highly encouraged to perform for those who have the means. However, those who like to perform on behalf of someone who passed away they are three (3) schools of thought:
1) Mazhab Shafie said it is valid unless the one who passed away has advised them during his life otherwise we cannot do Qurban for someone who has passed away.
2) Mazhab Hanafi and Hanbali allow performing Qurban on behalf of someone passed on.
3) Mazhab Maliki says it is makruh to perform Qurban for someone who has passed away.
However, based on the above, we can always offer the rewards of the Qurban to them, and our scholars have agreed on this. Yet Sahabah Ali bin Abu Talib, r.a. used to perform Qurban every year for our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW with two sheep.
Referring to the hadiths narrated by Aisyah R.A ( In the name of Allah, this is from Muhammad and the family of Muhammad and the Ummah of Muhammad). Recorded by Muslim.
