How long does Gut Potion last?
Unopened: When kept refrigerated, Gut Potion is best enjoyed within 1 to 2 months from purchase.
Once opened: We recommend finishing it within 5 to 7 days. Each time the bottle is opened, carbonation naturally escapes and oxygen enters, so the fizz may soften and the flavour may become flatter over time.
Storage: Gut Potion should be kept refrigerated at all times, ideally between 1°C and 4°C. As it is raw, live, and unpasteurised, fermentation can continue more quickly when left at room temperature. This may cause the flavour to become sharper and more vinegary, while also increasing carbonation and pressure inside the bottle.
Does it actually go bad or expire?
Gut Potion does not spoil or expire like milk or fresh drinks. Because kombucha is naturally acidic and fermented, it tends to age gradually over time.
When kept refrigerated and uncontaminated, it remains safe to drink beyond the best-enjoyed period, though the flavour will continue to change. Over time, it may become less sweet, more tart, more vinegary, and more carbonated.
For the best flavour, fizz, and balance, we recommend enjoying it within 1 to 2 months from purchase.
Do I really need to keep my kombucha in the fridge?
Yes. Gut Potion is live and unpasteurised, so the live cultures are still active.
Keeping it chilled slows down fermentation and helps maintain the flavour, fizz, and balance of the kombucha. If left at room temperature, fermentation may continue more quickly, which can lead to excess carbonation, overflow when opening, and a sharper, more sour taste.
Please keep chilled at all times.
Should I shake the bottle to mix up the sediment?
Please do not shake the bottle.
Our kombucha is naturally sparkling, so shaking it may cause the drink to foam or overflow when opened. If you notice natural sediment at the bottom, gently swirl the closed bottle or slowly tilt it upside down before opening.
Always open upright and slowly.
What are the floaties in my bottle?
Those strands, sediment, or jelly-like pieces are completely normal in raw kombucha.
They are a natural byproduct of fermentation and may include yeast strands or small pieces of cellulose from the kombucha culture, often known as SCOBY. Because Gut Potion is live and unpasteurised, these may continue to form naturally over time.
What to do: Please do not shake the bottle. If you would like to mix them in, gently tilt the closed bottle back and forth before opening.
Prefer a smoother drink? You can simply remove them or pour your kombucha through a small mesh strainer into your glass.
How much Gut Potion should I drink in a day?
For most adults, one glass of kombucha a day, around 230ml to 350ml, is a comfortable serving.
If you are new to kombucha, or if you have a sensitive stomach, we recommend starting with a smaller amount, around 100ml to 150ml, and seeing how your body feels.
Kombucha is naturally acidic and fermented, so it is best enjoyed in moderation as part of your daily routine.
Is there added sugar in kombucha? Why do you need to add sugar?
Yes. Sugar is needed to feed the live cultures during fermentation.
During brewing, the live cultures consume sugar from the sweet tea and transform it into organic acids, natural carbonation, and the balanced tartness that gives kombucha its character.
A small amount of residual sugar remains to balance the flavour, so the final drink tastes refreshing, not overly sharp.
Does Gut Potion kombucha contain alcohol?
Yes, kombucha naturally contains a trace amount of alcohol.
Alcohol is a natural byproduct of fermentation, created when yeast consumes sugar during the brewing process. Gut Potion is raw, live, and unpasteurised, so trace amounts may be present.
The amount is very low and our kombucha is not intended to be intoxicating. However, if you are pregnant, nursing, alcohol-sensitive, or avoiding alcohol for any reason, we recommend checking with a healthcare professional before consuming raw kombucha.
Is Gut Potion kombucha Halal? Can Muslims drink it?
Gut Potion is not currently Halal-certified.
As our kombucha is naturally fermented, raw, and unpasteurised, trace amounts of alcohol may be present as part of the fermentation process.
While Gut Potion’s kombucha is non-intoxicating, we encourage Muslim customers to use their own discretion when consuming naturally fermented drinks.
