"Venustus" most commonly refers to the Venustus Cichlid (Nimbochromis venustus), a popular freshwater aquarium fish also known as the Giraffe Cichlid or Giraffe Hap.

Origin: Endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa.
Appearance: Characterised by a distinctive yellow body with large, dark, giraffe-like blotches.
Males: Mature males develop a brilliant blue head and gold-green body highlights.
Females: Generally retain the silver/yellow background with dark blotches.
Hunting Behaviour: Known for a unique technique called thanatosis (playing dead). The fish lies motionless on the sand to ambush smaller prey that swim too close.
Aquarium Care:
Size: Can grow up to 25 centimetres (roughly 10 inches).
Tank Size: Requires a large tank, typically at least 500–700 litres due to its size and active nature.
Diet: Carnivorous; they require a high-protein diet including meaty foods or specialized pellets.
