Key Characteristics & Behavior
Schooling Nature: They are highly social and must be kept in groups of at least 6 to feel secure and display natural behavior.
Cleaning Crew: While they are excellent at scavenging leftover food from the substrate, they are not algae eaters and require dedicated sinking protein-rich foods.
Intestinal Breathers: You may see them dart to the surface to gulp air; they can breathe atmospheric oxygen through their gut.
Tank Setup: They thrive in well-planted tanks with driftwood and caves for hiding. A darker substrate.
Diet & Compatibility
Diet: Omnivorous. Feed high-quality sinking pellets or wafers, supplemented with frozen or live foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.
Tank Mates: They are compatible with virtually all peaceful community fish, including Tetras, Rasboras, Guppies, Angelfish, and Dwarf Cichlids. Avoid large, aggressive species like Oscars that might try to eat them, as the Cory's defensive spines can be fatal to both fish.
