The Super Red Shortfin Bristlenose Pleco (Ancistrus sp.) is a selectively bred, vibrant red-orange variant of the common Bristlenose Pleco. It is highly prized by aquarists for its striking colour and its ability to efficiently consume algae while remaining at a manageable size compared to other plecostomus species.

Key Characteristics
Appearance: These fish feature a solid reddish-orange body. Juveniles often start with a more yellowish hue that deepens as they mature.
Bristles: Adult males develop prominent tentacle-like bristles on their snouts. Females may have few or no bristles.
Size: They typically reach an adult length of 10–15 cm (4–6 inches).
Fins: Unlike the "Longfin" variety, the Shortfin version retains the standard, rounded fin shape of wild Bristlenose.

Aquarium Care Requirements
Parameter Optimal Range
Tank Size Minimum 60–80 litres (approx. 20 gallons)
Temperature 22°C – 28°C (72°F – 82°F)
pH Level 6.5 – 7.5
Diet Primarily herbivorous; requires algae wafers, blanched vegetables (zucchini, spinach), and some wood for digestion.

Behaviour and Compatibility
Temperament: Generally peaceful and hardy, making them excellent for community tanks.
Territoriality: Males can become territorial toward other males of the same species; provide plenty of driftwood and caves to reduce aggression.
Tank Mates: Compatible with most peaceful community fish such as tetras, rasboras, and guppies. Avoid aggressive species like large cichlids that might harass them.
