The Red Jewel Shortfin Pleco is a popular, vibrant variant of the Ancistrus sp. bristlenose catfish. It is highly valued for its striking solid red-orange coloration and its efficiency as a peaceful, hardy algae eater.

Key Characteristics
Scientific Name: Ancistrus sp. (a line-bred tank variety).
Max Size: Approximately 10–13 cm (4–5 inches), making it ideal for smaller to medium-sized aquariums.
Appearance: Characterised by a deep red or bright orange body with standard "short" fins (unlike the trailing longfin variant).
Temperament: Generally peaceful and community-friendly; however, males can be territorial with other male plecos and require adequate hiding spots like caves or driftwood.

Care Requirements
Tank Size: A minimum of 75–80 litres is recommended for a single adult.
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 24–28°C.
pH: 6.5–7.5.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous. They thrive on algae wafers, blanched vegetables (zucchini, spinach, or cucumber), and sinking pellets.
