Azalea Wood (often called Spider Wood) in an S-shape is a popular natural driftwood used to create dramatic focal points and complex aquascapes in freshwater aquariums. These pieces are valued for their twisted, gnarled root structures that mimic underwater tree roots, providing both aesthetic appeal and functional benefits for fish.

Key Features and Benefits
Unique Aesthetics: Every piece of Azalea Wood is unique, featuring intricate textures and "S" curves that add depth and dimension to a tank.

Aquascaping Versatility: Its branching structure is ideal for attaching epiphytic plants such as Anubias, Java Fern, or various mosses.

Fish-Friendly Habitat: The wood creates natural hideaways, territorial boundaries, and swimming channels, which helps reduce stress for fish and shrimp.

Low Tannin Release: Compared to other driftwoods like Malaysian driftwood, Azalea Wood releases fewer tannins, meaning it is less likely to significantly discolour your water or alter the pH.

Biofilm Production: New pieces often develop a harmless white, gel-like biofilm that serves as a natural food source for shrimp and snails.

Preparation and Maintenance
Soaking: This wood is very lightweight and naturally buoyant. It typically requires soaking for 1 to 4 weeks (or even longer) to become waterlogged and sink.

Anchoring: To use it immediately, you can weigh it down with rocks or glue it to a piece of slate using aquarium-safe adhesive.

Tanning Treatment: While tannins are minimal, boiling the wood for 30–45 minutes can help speed up the sinking process and sterilise the piece.

Decay: Because it is a softer wood, it may decay faster than denser driftwoods and might eventually need replacement after several years.
