517 - Alternanthera sessilis
This is one of the most beautiful plants you can find for sale in fish shops. Its intense, uniform, violet-red tone is unmatched, but it has one fatal "flaw" - it is NOT a true aquatic plant! This plant is suitable only for terrariums and paludariums. When completely under water, it can only survive for a short period of time, a few weeks at most.

Alternanthera sessilis is a fine-looking small bushy, stem plant with sturdy red/purple stems and long, pointy attractive leaves. These plants originate from South America and need plenty of light to develop the red/purple leaves. With the addition of CO2 this plant will grown readily to the surface. If there is a lack of micro nutrients this plant will suffer and the leaves will become pale in colour. This engaging plant will bring instant vibrancy and colour to your aquarium. As with all stem plants grow in groups of two and up.

722 - Hygrophila polysperma
Hygrophila polysperma from South-East Asia is one of the hardiest aquarium plants available. Stems becomes 25-40 cm and 4-8 cm wide. It is particularly good for beginners because it grows in almost all conditions. It normally grows so fast that it is important to prevent it crowding out other plants. The shoots must be pinched out regularly. Leaves lying on the surface form small new plants. Hygrophila polysperma varies considerably in leaf shape and colour, depending to some extent on the light supplied.
