Gesha has made a big splash in Panama over the years and has been promoted by Panama to the rest of the world, but Gesha's origins are still in Ethiopia, where it first grew wild in the Gori Gesha forests and was known as a native species. It was then isolated by the Kenyan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and spread to Uganda and Tanzania, then from Costa Rica to Panama, where it became famous at the Pontchartrain Estate and has since dominated half of the competition charts. Over the years, it has continued to gain popularity and has completely overshadowed the Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee and Kona Coffee.
