- Allergic Rhinitis: Provides relief from symptoms such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose, and itchy or watery eyes caused by seasonal allergies or hay fever.
- Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria: Effective in treating chronic hives characterized by itchy red bumps or wheals on the skin.
Mechanism of Action
Loratadine works by selectively blocking peripheral histamine H1 receptors, which reduces the effects of histamine in the body. This action alleviates allergy symptoms without causing significant sedation, as it does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier.
Dosage and Administration
- Recommended Dosage:
- For adults and children over 12 years: 10 mg (10 ml) once daily.
- For children aged 2 to 12 years weighing less than 30 kg: 5 mg (5 ml) once daily.
