Avamys is a prescription-only nasal spray that contains fluticasone furoate, a corticosteroid used to treat symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever). It helps alleviate nasal symptoms such as congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and itchy or watery eyes caused by allergens like pollen, dust mites, or pet dander.
Indications
Avamys is indicated for:
- Allergic Rhinitis: Effective in treating both seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and children aged 6 years and older.
Dosage
- Adults and Children Over 12 Years: The recommended dose is two sprays in each nostril once daily. After achieving symptom control, the dose may be reduced to one spray in each nostril once daily.
- Children Aged 6 to 12 Years: The initial recommended dose is one spray in each nostril once daily, which may be increased to two sprays if symptoms are not adequately controlled.
Administration
- Shake the bottle well before use.
- Administer the spray intranasally only; avoid contact with the eyes.
- For optimal results, use Avamys regularly at the same time each day. It typically starts working within 8 hours, but maximum benefit may take several days of consistent use.
Common Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
- Nosebleeds (epistaxis): Occurs in more than 1 in 10 users, particularly with prolonged use.
- Nasal irritation or discomfort
- Nasal ulcers
- Headache
Serious side effects are rare but can include:
- Allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of the face, lips, or throat)
- Changes in vision (e.g., blurred vision)
- Slowed growth in children with long-term use
Warnings and Precautions
