The main difference is the size and shape. Most pickling cucumbers are shorter, have a thin and ``bumpy'' skin and they are also more oddly shaped. Regular cucumbers are more uniform, have a thicker skin, and longer storage time.
To grow Picklebush cucumbers, sow seeds directly in the garden after the last frost, in a sunny, well-drained spot, and ensure consistent moisture and fertilization, ideally with a nitrogen-rich fertilizer.
Incomplete pollination of the female flower will cause deformed, curved growth, as can drought stress and being grown on the ground. Training plants on a trellis is the best way to ensure long, straight cucumbers.
My best advice is to sow in trays, plant in full sun and cover with netting to keep insects away. This is the organic way.
