Spaghetti squash is a winter squash that is available in South Africa and is used in cooking as a low-carb substitute for spaghetti. It's also known as vegetable spaghetti or noodle squash.
What it looks like
Spaghetti squash is an oblong fruit that can be ivory, yellow, or orange in color.
The flesh is solid when raw, but when cooked, it separates into ribbons that resemble spaghetti.
The center of the squash contains many large seeds.
How to cook it
You can bake, boil, steam, or microwave spaghetti squash.
One way to cook it is to cut the squash in half, place it cut side down on a baking tray, and bake at 180°C for about 45 minutes to an hour.
You can also cook it in the shell and scoop out the flesh with a fork.
