Kiwifruit or Chinese gooseberry is the edible berry of several species of woody vines in the genus Actinidia. The most common cultivar group of kiwifruit is oval, about the size of a large hen's egg: 5–8 centimetres in length and 4.5–5.5 cm in diameter.
In general, both types require two plants,a male and a female, for pollination. Both plants produce flowers, but only the female will produce fruit. To insure fruit production, plant a male and a female of the same species. There are self fertile varieties of each species which yield smaller fruits.
Place the seeds in a container with moist perlite and refrigerate at 40°F (4°C) for 2 months. Plant the seeds 1/8 inch deep in moist sterile potting mix and cover the container with plastic wrap.
