A firm favourite in many homes. The Maketaan is also known for the fine jam and candied melons pieces so popular in traditional South African homes. This is a long season melon that is not suited for fresh eating.
This wild melon is used for preserving and as fodder. Direct plant 2cm deep in groups of 3 seeds, spacing groups 90x90cm in full sun. Protect from strong winds. Germination: 7 – 10 days at 20°-30° C.
