The Black Beauty is an indeterminate heirloom tomato known for its exceptionally dark, purple-black skin and rich, savory flavor. Bred by Brad Gates of Wild Boar Farms, it is a cross between 'Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye' and 'Indigo Apple'.

Characteristics and flavor
Appearance: The darkest of all "black" tomatoes, its color comes from a high concentration of anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant also found in blueberries. The skin can be almost entirely black, with the shoulders holding the darkest color. The interior flesh is meaty and deep, dark red or purple.
Taste: The flavor is a key selling point, prized for its complexity. It is described as rich, smooth, and savory with earthy tones, and a balanced sweet-tangy flavor. Some find it to have a hint of smokiness. The flavor is said to improve even more after the fruit has fully ripened and rested at room temperature for a week.
Size and shape: It is a medium to large, beefsteak-type tomato, with a round or slightly flattened shape.
Growing tips
Sunlight: Black Beauty tomatoes require 6 to 8 hours of full sun daily, but in very hot climates, partial shade is recommended to prevent sunscald on the fruit.
Soil and watering: Plant in well-draining, fertile soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. Consistent soil moisture is important, so avoid letting the soil get too dry between waterings. Adding compost and mulching around the base can help retain moisture.
Support: As an indeterminate variety, Black Beauty plants will continue to grow and produce fruit until the first frost and can reach heights of 6 to 8 feet. You will need to provide support with stakes, cages, or trellises.
Ripening: The fruit will begin to turn from green to a deep purple. For the best flavor, harvest when the bottom of the tomato shows a reddish blush and the fruit feels slightly soft to the touch.
Culinary uses
Slicing: Its meaty texture and striking color make it an excellent choice for slicing onto sandwiches, burgers, or salads.
Gourmet dishes: The rich, complex flavor is a favorite among chefs for high-end cooking.
Sauces and jam: Its intense flavor also makes it suitable for cooking, from making sauces to a smoky tomato jam.
