The minimum shiur (שיעור) for karpas (כרפס) (typically parsley or another vegetable) is much smaller than for maror (מרור). The amount required is:
- Less than a kezayis (כזית) – meaning less than approximately 1oz (28g) in volume.
- Many opinions hold that even a small piece is sufficient.
Since karpas (כרפס) is eaten primarily for dipping in saltwater and not as a required volume-based mitzvah like maror, there is no strict measurement. Most people use a small sprig of parsley, celery, or another vegetable, which is well below a kezayis.
This is just a guideline—consult your Rav for specific guidance.
