I can smell a lot of spices right away, and there are subtle hints of vanilla, caramel, and butterscotch. I can also detect whiffs of leather and nutmeg with small amounts of cinnamon. What surprises me the most is the amount of oak that comes off of it for a young bourbon. If I keep smelling, I might even be able to detect some sweet barbecue sauce.
