NOVO NORDISK – NovoRapid Pen (Insulin Aspart)
Each NovoRapid pen contains:
Total Content: 300 IU of Insulin Aspart per pen.
Concentration: 100 IU/ml (3 ml of solution in each pen).
Indications:
NovoRapid is used for the management of diabetes mellitus (type 1 and type 2) to control blood glucose levels. It is a rapid-acting insulin that helps lower blood sugar levels after meals.
Administration:
Administered via subcutaneous injection using the pre-filled pen, typically just before or shortly after meals. The dosage is individualized based on blood sugar levels and needs, as determined by a healthcare provider.
Effects:
NovoRapid starts working within 10-20 minutes of injection, peaks in about 1-3 hours, and lasts for 3-5 hours. It helps manage post-meal blood glucose spikes, reducing the risk of hyperglycemia.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), injection site reactions, and weight gain. Serious but rare side effects include allergic reactions and hypokalemia (low potassium levels).
Contraindications:
Not suitable for individuals with hypoglycemia or an allergy to Insulin Aspart. It should be used with caution in those with liver or kidney impairment. Close monitoring of blood sugar levels is essential during treatment to avoid complications like hypoglycemia.
