Squid Tubes/ Calamari

Two popular ways to prepare calamari are frying it or stuffing and baking it. Here are recipes for both methods:

Classic Fried Calamari Recipe

Ingredients:

• 1 pound squid tubes, cleaned and sliced into rings
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1/2 cup cornmeal
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
• 1/2 teaspoon paprika
• 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
• Vegetable oil, for frying
• Lemon wedges, for serving
• Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Calamari:
• Rinse the squid rings under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
2. Prepare the Coating:
• In a shallow dish, combine the flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper (if using).
3. Coat the Calamari:
• Dredge the squid rings in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated. Shake off any excess flour.
4. Heat the Oil:
• In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (around 350°F/175°C).
5. Fry the Calamari:
• Fry the coated squid rings in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
• Use a slotted spoon to remove the calamari from the oil and drain on paper towels
