Passing Through features KAWS’s iconic “Companion” figure sitting with its hands over its eyes, expressing a moment of vulnerability and embarrassment. This pose was first created for KAWS’s debut public sculpture in 2010 at Harbour City, Hong Kong. Inspired by the idea of feeling overwhelmed in front of a crowd, the piece is often seen as a self-portrait of the artist dealing with global fame. Passing Through has been showcased in top locations like The Aldrich Museum of Art, the Standard Hotel in NYC, and Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station. In 2013, it was released as collectible vinyl toys in grey, black, and brown with an additional OPEN edition released in September 2018.
