Our scholars say good smells have a positive effect on one's intellect and understanding. Those who give their children something beautiful to smell daily note that it strengthens and expands the child's mind. Some Islamic schools have a practice of burning luban in the school every morning to bring in nice smells. Nice smells also inspire righteousness as they attract angels.

Light luban: Put 3 pieces of light luban into a 1 litre bottle of water and drink it daily as it is one of the ways to increase in memory. After the taste of luban has gone away, you can use it for burning thereafter.
Dark luban: Only for burning
