Pineapple tarts can be found throughout different parts of Southeast Asia such as Malaysia (Baba Malay : Kueh Tae or Kuih Tair), Indonesia (Kue Nastar), Brunei & Singapore (Kueh Nanas) and it comes in various forms.
The Pineapple tarts – In Hokkien, pineapples are called “ong lai” which also means “luck is coming.” Because of this, pineapples are frequently displayed in homes during the Lunar New Year period and pineapple tarts / balls are frequently eaten or given as gifts as a means of bringing in the luck.
A similarly influenced pastry, known as pineapple cake or pineapple pastry, is also found in Taiwan, South Korea and Japan.
Main ingredients;
Pastry (butter, egg yolk, corn starch), and pineapple jam.
