Tiotropium Bromide Powder for Inhalation IP 18mcg

Composition:
Each inhalation device (capsule) contains Tiotropium Bromide 18mcg as the active ingredient.

Indications:
Tiotropium Bromide Powder for Inhalation 18mcg is indicated for the long-term management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is also used to prevent bronchospasm in patients with COPD and asthma. Tiotropium is a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA), used to improve breathing and reduce the frequency and severity of flare-ups in patients with COPD.

Mechanism of Action:
Tiotropium Bromide is a bronchodilator that works by blocking the action of acetylcholine on the muscarinic receptors (M3) in the smooth muscle of the airways. This results in the relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles and subsequent bronchodilation (widening of the airways), making it easier for patients to breathe. By blocking the effects of acetylcholine, Tiotropium helps to reduce airway constriction and prevent bronchospasms that are characteristic of COPD and asthma.

Dosage:
The usual recommended dose for Tiotropium Bromide Powder for Inhalation is one 18mcg capsule inhaled once daily, using the device provided. Each capsule contains the correct dose of Tiotropium, and the capsule should be inhaled through the dry powder inhaler. It is important not to exceed the prescribed dose. The medication is intended for maintenance use only and should not be used as a rescue medication for acute bronchospasm.

Packaging:
Tiotropium Bromide Powder for Inhalation 18mcg is typically packaged in blister packs containing 30 capsules or as specified by the manufacturer. The medication is used with a dry powder inhaler device that is included in the package.
