Strength: Lamivudine 150 mg + Stavudine 300 mg
Form: Oral Tablet
Category: Antiretroviral (Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitor β NRTI) Combination
Indication: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV-1) Infection
Lamivudine & Stavudine 150 mg/300 mg Tablets is a fixed-dose combination antiretroviral medication used in conjunction with other antiretrovirals for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. Both active ingredients are nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) that work by blocking reverse transcriptase, an enzyme critical for the replication of the HIV virus.
Mechanism of Action:
Lamivudine and Stavudine are phosphorylated within host cells to their active forms, which inhibit HIV reverse transcriptase, thereby preventing the conversion of viral RNA into DNA and blocking viral replication.
Key Benefits:
Effective in suppressing HIV viral replication
Helps improve immune system function and increase CD4+ cell count
Can delay progression to AIDS and reduce HIV-related complications
Convenient dual-drug formulation enhances patient adherence
Dosage & Administration:
Administered orally as directed by a healthcare provider, typically twice daily. Dose adjustments may be required based on renal function and body weight.
Important Information:
Should always be used in combination with other antiretroviral agents
Regular monitoring of liver function, peripheral neuropathy symptoms, and viral load is advised
Not a cure for HIV, but essential in long-term viral suppression and disease management
Use with caution in patients with a history of lactic acidosis or hepatic steatosis
