Description:
Budesonide 0.5mg Respules (2ml each) is an inhaled corticosteroid medication used for the prevention and long-term management of asthma symptoms, including wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. Classified as a "preventer," Budesonide works by reducing inflammation in the airways, thereby helping to control chronic respiratory conditions and reduce the frequency of asthma attacks.
Therapeutic Uses:
Maintenance treatment of asthma in adults and children
Management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
Prevention of respiratory symptoms in patients with reactive airway diseases
Mechanism of Action:
Budesonide acts locally in the lungs to suppress inflammation by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators. This reduces airway swelling and mucus production, resulting in improved breathing over time.
Dosage Form:
Sterile inhalation suspension for use with a nebuliser
Strength:
0.5 mg per 2 ml respule
Prescription Status:
Prescription-only medication
Note:
Budesonide Respules are not intended for immediate relief of acute asthma attacks. Patients should have a fast-acting bronchodilator (“reliever” inhaler) readily available for sudden symptoms. This medication must be used regularly and under medical supervision. Rinsing the mouth after nebulisation is recommended to reduce the risk of oral thrush.
